WE HIT HUNGER OUT OF THE PARK

Cal Raleigh knows being a hometown hero is about more than baseball—it’s about showing up for the community he calls home. Together, we leveraged the power of community and the love of good food to help local children who are struggling with food insecurity.

“We cannot begin to thank Cal, Evergreens, and each and every person who donated for their amazing support. This has been our largest dine and donate campaign to date, which is a testament to how our Seattle community shows up for one another. We invite anyone interested to join Backpack Brigade as a volunteer or monthly donor to support our mission all year long.”
– Nichelle Hilton, Founder & Executive Director of Backpack Brigade

THAT’S A WRAP

From September 30 through October 31, EVERGREENs donated $1 from every “Call Me CAL-iente” wrap—a fan-favorite menu item crafted in partnership with Raleigh—and invited guests to add donations online, in-store, and through sales of limited-edition Call Me CAL-iente themed merchandise. Thanks to overwhelming community support, the campaign raised over $7,600. In addition to funds raised in-store, food vendor Charlie’s Produce donated 1,000 pieces of fresh fruit to Backpack Brigade. Backpack Brigade provides students with nutritious, shelf-stable weekend meals which costs an average of $7.50 per child—meaning this campaign will help power over 1,000 weekends for local children facing food security.

As many families are facing a potential decrease in food benefits this month, community support to fight food insecurity is more important than ever. EVERGREENs is committed to extending the impact. Through November, guests can continue donating to Backpack Brigade at checkout when they visit an EVERGREENs location.

BACKPACK BRIGADE

Every child deserves to eat on the weekend. For many students, free or reduced-price school meals are their only reliable source of nutrition, leaving weekends without consistent access to food.

Backpack Brigade was founded in 2014 and is the largest provider of weekend hunger bags to students in Washington State.  Each week, the organization delivers nutritionally dense, kid-friendly, and easy to cook meal bags with breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks to more than 100 schools where they’re distributed by school staff to students in need. The program serves over 5,100 children and totals more than 1.3 million meals annually.

Powered by volunteers and sustained through donations, Backpack Brigade ensures kids return to school on Monday fed, focused, and ready to learn. Learn more about Backpack Brigade’s mission and how to get involved. Follow along on Instagram for more updates.

Every dollar raised through this partnership goes directly to feeding the kids in our communities who need it most.
